WordPress Ranks Last in Core Web Vitals Performance Report

Roger Montti at Search Engine Journal has published a breakdown of the latest Core Web Vitals Technology Report from the open-source HTTPArchive project, highlighting how major content management systems stack up regarding Google’s user experience benchmarks.

In his article, WordPress Versus Everyone: The Top CMS For Core Web Vitals, Montti points out that July’s update shows improvement across all six tracked CMS platforms. Still, WordPress continues to lag in absolute performance and its month-over-month progress rate.

According to the report, Duda leads with 84.96% of sites passing Core Web Vitals, while WordPress trails in last place at 44.34%. Joomla showed the most significant month-over-month gain (+3.23%), yet still placed fifth overall. WordPress, by contrast, posted the smallest increase (+0.90%).

Montti also challenges some common assumptions within the SEO and publishing communities. He notes that despite the perception that WordPress is faster or easier to rank because of its plugin ecosystem, the data shows otherwise. Platforms like Duda, Wix, and Squarespace consistently outperform WordPress in user experience metrics that Google itself prioritizes.

The takeaway from Montti’s coverage is that while all CMSs are improving, the gap between WordPress and its competitors remains substantial. Duda’s performance advantage is stark, with nearly double the percentage of sites passing Core Web Vitals compared to WordPress.
